Graphical abstract: Abstract: Petasins are a group of sesquiterpenoids found in butterbur and other plants, and are a group of compounds of interest because they exhibit useful biological activity. On the other hand, their synthesis has been limited to a strategy that involves multiple steps and expensive reagents. In this context, we have developed a rapid and inexpensive method for the synthesis of petasin and isopetasin.
