Abstract

Abstract: The present study evaluated the protective effect of Lactobacillus acidophilus against the toxicity of the Beauvericin on the Caco-2 cell line. After culturing Caco-2 cells and applying different concentrations of Beauvericin and L. acidophilus individually and in combination, cell viability was assessed by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay at different times. The results indicate the potential risk of Beauvericin to human health and the interventional role of L. acidophilus, which improved cell viability in the presence of Beauvericin. Graphical abstract: Image 1 Highlights: Lactobacillus acidophilus grows in presence of 5 μmol of Beauvericin. The more exposure of cells to Lactobacillus acidophilus, the lower cell growth. Lactobacillus acidophilus improved cell viability in the presence of Beauvericin. Lactobacillus acidophilus limits the consequences of Beauvericin.
