- Abstract: Battery temperature management is the core technology of new energy vehicles concerning its stability and safety. Starting with the temperature management, this paper establishes mathematical and physical models from two dimensions, battery module and temperature management system to study the characteristics of battery heat transfer with different cone angles 0°, 60° and 90°, and analyzes the effects of distribution density and cone angle on battery module heat transfer through trials and experiments. The experimental results show that, if the distribution density remains constant, there will be a "buffer zone" in the battery module with cone angle 0°, which will decrease the cooling capacity of the battery near the outlet, meanwhile, the temperature dynamic range of cone angle 60° is lower than that of 0° and 90°, but the temperature difference is higher; while the temperature difference between the first two rows of the battery with cone angle other than 0° is the largest, and the temperature difference between the two adjacent rows decreases. If the cone angle keeps constant, an increase in the flow rate will reduce the temperature difference between the two adjacent rows. Therefore, the battery module can obtain the best cooling performance with low battery distribution density if the battery module keeps a cone angle of 60°.
