- Abstract: In Friction Stir Welding (FSW), the parent materials get fused and joined with each other without any addition of filler material. So in FSW, the weld joints have negligible weld defects in comparison to conventional fusion welding process. It is applicable to join both similar and dissimilar metals which is difficult in conventional welding processes. In the current study, FSW was carried out for AA 6061-T6 alloy using 'General Full Factorial' Design and measured the temperature distribution around the stirred zone. This paper describes the use of mathematical model for FSW joint of AA 6061-T6 using 'R' Programming to extrapolate the test findings. This mathematical model helps in correlating the process variables with the output response 'Maximum Process Temperature'. The experimental values and the predicted values can be established by an empirical relationship. To assess the accuracy of the models developed for predicting the Maximum Process Temperature, Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) – F test and scatter diagram were applied.
