- Abstract: Polymeric materials can be applied to design solar paints for photovoltaic purpose to generate electricity from the natural resource of solar energy. Bandgap energy is a key parameter for photovoltaic technology. In this backdrop studies have been made to examine and understand the features of bandgap of the composite materials system prepared from polyvinyl alcohol in presence of additives like ferrous chloride (FeCl2 ) and ferric chloride (FeCl3 ). Role of incorporation of such iron salts in the PVA polymer matrix on the band gap (BG) and allied optical parameters are studied and reported.
