Abstract

Abstract : Introduction: Most patients with recurrent pregnancy loss (RPL) can have a natural pregnancy. However, there are some patients who will require infertility treatment. The aim of this study was to clarify the factors that cause secondary infertility in patients with RPL. Material and Methods: Two hundred and three patients with RPL who had previously had only natural pregnancies and whose next pregnancy outcome after screening for the cause of RPL was also known were included in this study. The effects of the age of last clinical miscarriage, number of previous live births, number of previous clinical miscarriages and number of previous dilation and evacuation on secondary infertility were examined using logistic regression analysis. Results: There were 155 patients (76.4%) who had natural pregnancy again and 48 patients (23.6%) who required infertility treatment. When analyzing infertility treatment separately for in vitro fertilization (IVF) (n = 27) and others such as artificial insemination (n = 21), only IVF was associated with age of last clinical miscarriage (OR = 1.37, 95% CI: 1.20-1.56, P < 0.01) and number of previous live births (OR = 0.17, 95% CI: 0.05-0.62, P < 0.01). Conclusion: Even patients who were able to have several natural pregnancies were shown to require IVF with increasing age. However, it was suggested that patients with secondary RPL were less likely to require up to IVF.
