Abstract

Abstract: Drastic improvement in the progress of the Internet of Things environment increased the users' access to various information online. The upcoming Internet of Drones (IoD) has increased the reliability of the information that the users require in the different scenarios as it has several merits like low power consumption and navigation properties. At the same time, it becomes vital to protect the IoD from several severe security attacks specifically insider attacks which are devastating in their effects when compared to other security attacks. Numerous protocols proposed in recent times claim to protect IoD from all known security attacks but unfortunately, fail to prevent a few attacks especially, insider attacks. This article proposes "EAPIOD: ECC based authentication protocol for insider attack protection in IoD scenario" that protects IoD from several known attacks, especially insider attacks. EAPIOD is proved to be immune to security attacks. Security analysis in both ways formally by scyther tool and informally by cryptanalyzing EAPIOD. The evaluation of EAPIOD for its communication and computation cost exhibits that its performance is probably higher than several existing schemes on account of providing enhanced security.
