Abstract

Abstract : Background: Chronic low back pain (CLBP) has a high cost, with several comorbidities, influencing the evolution. One factor is the mental state, but also the apprehension of movement. It is frequent but the treatment models are different. One of the most successful and well documented is the multidisciplinary approach. But which patient will respond? Several questionnaires exist to evaluate the situation, one easy one is the COMI. Objectives: The aim of the study is to see for a relation in CLBP patients between global COMI and the fear avoidance questionnaire of Waddell. Methods: We have studied the results of 100 patients who have accomplished this interdisciplinary program, follow-up on 12 months. In the rehab program they have physical reconditioning, occupational exercises the whole in a TCC context. All patients had to fill out the COMI but also the Fabq and global functional pain scores Results: There were a clear relationship between a high COMI score and fear of work, as seen with the Fabq. On the other side we didn't find a relation with depression and anxiety measured with the HADS Conclusions: The COMI is a easy to use, and give in 7 questions a global image of the patient, but also the influence of apprehension in his pain image This should help use to give a more global restoration program taking in to count this observation.
