- Highlights: Environment is a NaCl solution spray at 600 °C that closes to real service. Corrosion behaviour of Fe-20Cr is significantly different from the old study. Corrosion of Fe-20Cr is enhanced by NaCl solution spray at 600 °C. Small amount of Cl in unit time can inhibit the formation of Cr2 O3 and accelerate corrosion. Abstract: The corrosion behavior of Fe-20Cr in NaCl solution spray at 600 °C, compared with that under solid NaCl deposit in water vapor, has been studied by mass-gain measurements, scanning electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, secondary ion mass spectrometry and transmission electron microscopy methods The results demonstrated that Fe-20Cr undergoes serious corrosion in NaCl solution spray. Significantly different corrosion products with outer Fe2 O3 and inner FeCr2 O4 layers were formed. Meanwhile, a small amount of Cl was found in the corrosion scale, which was thought to have an important effect on corrosion. The corrosion behavior of Fe-20Cr in NaCl solution spray at 600 °C has been discussed in detail.
