Abstract

Abstract : ( Int J Obstet Anesth . 2021;48:103206) Tranexamic acid (TXA) is an antifibrinolytic agent that promotes hemostasis by preventing blood clot deterioration. Common off-label uses of TXA include preventing and treating bleeding and blood loss in trauma, cardiac surgery, intracranial and subarachnoid hemorrhage, orthopedic and spinal surgery, and obstetric settings. Despite its common use, much is unclear about the effects, risks, mechanisms, and dosing of TXA. Since serious side effects like seizures and venous thrombo-embolic events have been observed, a closer look at the dosing and use of TXA is needed.
