- Abstract: The fossil fuel reserves in our country and in the world are dwindling at a rapid pace. With the current rate of production and consumption, the natural gas and oil reserves are predicted to run out in 50 years. To prepare for such an imminent energy crisis, we must look to alternative sources of fuel. Global interest in vegetable oils as fuels for internal combustion engines dates back to the early 20th century. In order to cut down dependence on imported fossil fuels and to reduce pollution caused by the use of fossil fuels, the government of India is promoting extensive research in the field of biofuels. Usage of biodiesel will also result in lower CO and HC emissions. This study aims to carry out a comparative analysis of the performance and emission characteristics of karanja oil, jatropha oil, palm oil, cotton seed oil, and neem oil with diesel on a diesel engine.
