- Highlights: Development of homogeneous Self-Lubricated composites of CuO/MgO/ZTA. Mechanical properties evaluation. Effect of load and sliding velocity on the COF. Abstract: This investigation focused to develop homogeneous self-lubricating composites of CuO/MgO/ZTA through powder metallurgy route. FESEM and XRD plots are carried out to show the uniform distribution of CuO particles inside the matrix. The result of mechanical characterisation shows a slight reduction in bulk density and hardness, due to formation of higher grain size. An improvement in fracture toughness is noticed due to the presence of CuO that act as a ductile particle, enhances the crack deflection and crack bridging phenomenon. The tribological study shows an improvement in COF due to self-lubrication phenomenon. This improvement is attributed to the formation of long elastic smooth patchy layer between siding surfaces. The effect of sliding velocity is higher due to high smearing and squeezing action takes place at higher sliding speed.
