- Abstract: The strength of rotor-spun yarns is usually lower than that of ring-spun yarns. One of the major factors which affect the strength is the fiber morphology. Better understanding of the fiber morphology in the rotor cup would help to strengthen the yarn. In this paper, a visual experimental platform is used to study the morphology evolution of the fiber in the rotor. Two parameters S1 and S2 are defined to evaluate the deformation of the fiber. When the values of S1 and S2 decrease, the fiber deformation becomes smaller. While the rotor speed is 60, 000 rpm, the outlet velocity is 20 m/s and the angle of the transport channel relative to the rotor is 30°, the fiber has minimal deformation. The results may provide a useful insight to the yarn-forming properties of rotor spinning.
