- Highlights: Loading rate effect of the scaled rubber bearings were experimentally studied. Tests at different temperatures (-30℃, -10℃ and 20℃) were considered. Test result indicates that the bearings have a significant loading rate dependence. A fractional derivative three-element model is proposed for loading rate effect. Abstract: The rate-dependent of scaled high-performance rubber bearings (HPRBs) were investigated in this study. Firstly, a series of cyclic compression shear tests, simple relaxation tests and multi-step relaxation tests with different shear strains at −30 °C, −10 °C, and 20 °C were carried out. The influence of loading rate and test temperature on the mechanical properties of bearings were revealed through experimental observations. Then, a fractional derivative three-element model was introduced to simulate the loading-rate dependent behaviors of HPRBs, and an identification scheme was successfully applied to obtain the parameter of the introduced model. Finally, the effectiveness of the model was tested through the comparison of simulation results and experimental results.
