- Abstract: The creep behavior of ceramic cores significantly influences dimensional precision and defects of parts in investment casting, but it has been rarely studied, especially for 3D-printed ceramic cores. This work investigates the creep behavior of silica ceramics formed by stereolithography and analyzes the influence of ZrSiO4 addition on their creep mechanism. Creep test was conducted on specimens with different ZrSiO4 content under stress of 5 MPa–20MPa between 1400°C and 1500 °C. The creep behavior was analyzed based on Norton-Bailey-Arrhenius equation. Different from traditionally-formed ceramics, the creep rate of specimens in this work was found to first increase and then decrease with ZrSiO4 content arising from 0 to 25%, reaching a peak for 15% ZrSiO4 addition. Through scanning electron microscopy (SEM), delamination phenomenon was observed and accounted for the difference of creep behavior. ZrSiO4 addition hinders viscous flow of fused silica, deteriorating delamination and increasing creep. More ZrSiO4, however, promotes interlayer densification, strengthening creep resistance.
