Abstract

ABSTRACT: This study investigates the impact of various food and restaurant service attributes on tourist satisfaction in mountainous destinations of India based on the information obtained from 316 tourists via a self-administered questionnaire. The findings reveal ambience, food quality, quality of physical features and service quality have a significant impact on tourist satisfaction, while food preparation & presentation, authenticity and employee attributes do not contribute significantly to tourist satisfaction. This study recommends that restaurateurs should offer local food, engage tourists with traditional methods of food preparation & presentation, concentrate on the hygienic servicescape, emphasize on employees' appearance and showcase indigenous socio-cultural objects in restaurants for overall tourist satisfaction in the geographically disadvantaged mountainous destinations. Several implications are drawn from the findings and directions for future studies are suggested.
