Abstract

ABSTRACT: The antimalarial plants used by the indigenous people and local communities (IPLCs) of the Pushparajgarh, a tribal-dominated tehsil (an administrative division) of the District Anuppur, Madhya Pradesh, India were documented. IPLCs used herbs to treat malaria, collected from the nearby forested areas. The survey was conducted in 2016–2017 through oral interviews and semistructured questionnaires. A total of 19 antimalarial plants from 13 families and 19 genera were recorded. The documented information was correlated to the availability of plants in the area (i.e., field-based information). Coordinates of the specific location of the plants were recorded with the help of handheld Global Positioning System (GPS) and geographical distribution maps were generated using the Geographic Information System (GIS) software (ArcGIS 10.3 software). The multilayered database created contained botanical information, their spatial distribution, and plants used for antimalarial activity.
