- Abstract: Micro- and nano-architected lattice materials present a vast design space to achieve unique and highly tunable properties under large deformations. While computational models have the potential to significantly accelerate the exploration of this design space, current modeling capabilities are limited, particularly in their ability to capture cell collapse and post-collapse load increases due to densification. In this work, we present a multiscale, FE 2 approach to modeling nano-architected materials that captures geometric nonlinearities of buckling, post-buckling softening, and densification. It also captures material nonlinearities of plastic yield and hardening. The homogenization scheme and coupling framework are developed to be compatible with widely available, general-purpose finite element analysis tools.
