- ABSTRACT: The production and analysis of highly reactive Fe catalyzed coke through briquetting route were carried out in this work. The utilization of highly reactive coke in steel making is an alternative process to reduce energy consumption and CO2 emissions in a blast furnace. A scale-up approach is carried out by first optimization of parameters in laboratory scale and then implementing those results in the 7 Kg stamp charge coke oven. The experimentation was carried out through the design of experiments by Taguchi method L16 orthogonal array taking five factors with four levels associated with each parameter. Statistical analysis shows that binder percentage has the maximum contribution in the strength of briquette with iron ore percentage having the least effect. Reactivity analysis shows iron ore addition increases the reactivity of coke around 94.9%, indicating a self-reducing property of iron-oxide. CRI and CSR indexes were found to be 52.3% and 3.2%, for 10% addition of iron ore in a blend which shows the increased reactivity of produced coke. Also, this study establishes an important interrelation and validation of results at the laboratory and in the large scale stamp charge oven test.
