Abstract

Abstract: This work examines the effect of adding pentanol to biodiesel from Prosopis Juliflora seed oil performed on a standard CI engine. The objective of this work is to control the emissions of CI engine by fuelling blends of Prosopis Juliflora and pentanol. Biodiesel is produced by a transesterification process from Prosopis Juliflora seed oil. In this work pentanol is used as antioxidant. The test is carried out using fuel blends, namely Prosopis Juliflora biodiesel oil (B), 90% biodiesel from Prosopis Juliflora seed oil and 10% pentanol (B90P10), 80% biodiesel from Prosopis Juliflora seed oil and 20% pentanol (B80P20). From the experimental investigation, it is concluded that a reduction of 10.1%, 2.6%, 5.1% and 2.1% is observed in the emissions of carbon monoxide, hydrocarbon, nitrogen oxides and smoke, respectively, with the addition of 10% pentanol to biodiesel. Also, when refuelling with these blends, no modifications to the engines are required.
