- Abstract: SnO2 octahedral nanoparticles exposed with high energy facet were synthesized by a simple hydrothermal technique. The microstructural analysis of the synthesized nanoparticles was carried out by field emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM). X-ray diffraction (XRD) spectrum was used to analyze the crystal structure of the sample. Gas sensing properties of the sample were studied towards various reducing gases. The device fabricated using the sample showed a higher response to hydrogen sulphide (H2 S) at an operating temperature of 200℃. The lowest concentration, detectable at this operating temperature, is 1 ppm H2 S gas. The device can be used for the identification of the presence of H2 S in the exhaled breath for the early-stage detection of halitosis. The exhaled breath of halitosis patients contains 80 ppb-2 ppm of H2 S.
