- Abstract: The need for fossil energy is increasing. Alternative energy is needed to support the availability of energy, such as biodiesel. The development of biodiesel uses cheap raw materials such as cooking oil with cheap catalysts such as calcium oxide. The support of zinc acetate dihydrate on the catalyst can improve the catalyst's performance, and n-hexane as a solvent can improve the mass transfer process to each other and based on this study have a significant effect. Experimental design and optimization using the Response Surface Methodology, which is based on the Box-Behnken. The highest yield was obtained at 3.5 h, a temperature of 60 °C, a molar ratio of methanol: oil 12:1, and a volume ratio of n-hexane: oil 0.75:1 of 97.30% with R 2 = 95.57%. Further research needs to be done using n-hexane with a smaller ratio to save the costs needed.
