Abstract

ABSTRACT: A polarisation-independent and low-voltage-driven two-dimensional blue phase liquid crystal (BPLC) microlens array is proposed. The pixel electrode of the microlens array is composed of planar hole-patterned electrode and square electrode. Combined with composite dielectric layer and planar common electrode, a two-dimensional microlens array is realised. When the same driving voltage is applied to the hole-patterned electrode and square electrode, the longitudinal electric field with gradient distribution will be generated in the BPLC layer, which facilitates the polarisation-independent properties of the microlens array. At the same time, the dielectric layer with high dielectric coefficient used in the microlens array helps to achieve its low driving voltage.
