- Abstract: Lanthanum zinc titanium double perovskite doped with europium ions (La2 ZnTiO6 :Eu 3+ (LZTO:Eu 3+ )) were prepared by a sol–gel method followed by annealing treatment. The developed LZTO:Eu 3+ phosphors were validated by demonstrating the structural, morphological and photoluminescence (PL) properties. The PL excitation and PL emission spectra confirmed that the LZTO:Eu 3+ phosphors emit bright red light under near-ultraviolet (396 nm) and visible (465) nm radiations. The optimal doping concentration of Eu 3+ ions was found to be about 8 mol%. The Commission International de L′Eclairage (CIE) chromaticity coordinates for LZTO:8Eu 3+ phosphors were located in the red region with (0.645, 0.346) under 396 nm excitation and (0.644, 0.354) under 465 nm excitation and exhibited the color purity of about 90.3%. All the results indicate that the LZTO:Eu 3+ phosphors would be the potential candidates for their use in WLEDs and visualizing the latent fingerprints. Graphical Abstract: ga1 Highlights: La2 ZnTiO6 :Eu 3+ phosphors were synthesized by a sol-gel method. La2 ZnTiO6 :Eu 3+ phosphors displayed excellent luminescent properties in the red region and exhibited good color purity. WLED fabricated with blue chip/YAG:Ce 3+ / La2 ZnTiO6 :8Eu 3+ phosphors shows warm white light. La2 ZnTiO6 :Eu 3+ phosphors have potential to be used as color convert for latent fingerprint detections.
