- Abstract: Composite materials can be modified to offer additional mechanical and barrier properties. This work presents the manufacturing processes by the stir casting method of a novel Al6061 composite with 10% SiC and 5% Flyash (50 μm size). Experimental studies are analyzed about the mechanical properties of SiC/FA reinforced Al6061. Investigations with a hardness tester on Vickers showed that the composite had increased hardness. For Al6061 and the novel composite Al6061 + SiC/Flyash with a Pin on a disc tribometer, wear characteristics were investigated for load ranges of 1–2 Kg and velocity differing from 100 to 500 rpm. The effect on the wear of the novel composite of critical parameters such as load and velocity was present with an analysis of sensitivity. The results found are promising, showing a lower wear rate to the novel composite. The weight percentage of SiC particulates with a constant weight percentage of Fly Ash(FA) in the aluminum matrix, the mechanical properties such as hardness and tensile strength have been improved.
