Abstract

Abstract : Background: In response to the COVID-19 pandemic a postal testing service was established to continue the provision of sexual health services in Wales. Multiple evaluations and projects have been undertaken to identify its strengths and improve its provision. Lessons Learned The postal testing service from a user perspective has been a great success. With feedback identifying that the service targets a real need, providing easy access and encouraging more to get tested through the removal of barriers. An increase in testing for Chlamydia and Gonorrhoea from pre-Covid levels was identified, supporting the service provision. The quick set-up required in the circumstances resulted in limitations for data management. Data linkage for ordered kits, results and linkage to care was not possible but PHW have addressed this since the evaluation. There are some ongoing issues such as correct coding in clinics to allow for data feedback to PHW after positive/reactive cases are identified. A minor issue around branding was an identified. The integration of postal testing into an existing website on sexual health information (Frisky Wales) resulted in some confusion. Frisky Wales was also deemed inappropriate by some (mostly healthcare professionals), and it has since been changed to Sexual Health Wales. Conclusions/Next Steps PHW continue to develop the service and include alternative methods for testing. Overall, postal testing has been a triumph, improving access to testing and being heavily adopted by the public. Some issues with data continue but work is ongoing to solve these and do not impact the services main priority.
