Abstract

Abstract: In the last decades, an extended set of restrictions and requirements for the automotive industry were imposed due to the increased concern for the environment and the population's health. Their purpose is to gradually reduce the level of emissions. Personal and commercial vehicles represent an important percent of total industry emissions footprint [1], however, intervention vehicles also bring a significant contribution in this area. The current paper proposes a theoretical study from an aerodynamic point of view of generic exterior equipment such as warning lights, sound devices, etc. for different body types such as sedan, hatchback, SUV, trucks. While the base vehicle complies with standard regulations regarding the emissions, the paper will highlight the significant impact brought by these elements when integrated on the vehicle, outside the manufacturer's development process. The paper will also show the relationship between equipment's dimension and position and the aerodynamic coefficient, though in fuel consumption and overall emissions performance.
