- Abstract : Nickel-doped Lanthanum cobalt oxide (LaCo1-x Nix O3- δ, LCN) was investigated as an alternative anode material for solid oxide fuel cells (SOFCs). The LCN anode was unstable with YSZ electrolyte at high temperature, forming an electrochemically inactive phase such as La2 Zr2 O7 . To minimize the interlayer by-products, the LCN was coated by double-tape casting method on the Ni/YSZ anode as a catalytic functional layer. The LCN-coated Ni/YSZ anode exhibits better cell performance than the Ni/YSZ anode at CH4 fuel conditions. Due to the low catalytic activity of carbon formation, the cell performance of LCN-coated Ni/YSZ anode was significantly improved than that of the Ni/YSZ anode. In addition, the carbon deposition was significantly reduced in CH4 fuel.
