- Highlights: The optical shielding pavement coatings were prepared with Cs0.3 WO3 . The change law of optical shielding performance of the coating was studied. Optical shielding is an effective measure to reduce the temperature of asphalt pavement. Abstract: Asphalt pavement absorbs more than 90% of solar radiation, which induces a series of issues. To solve these problems, a novel optical shielding pavement coating with nano-tungsten bronze (Mx WO3 ) was developed, of which the M were Na +, K + and Cs + respectively. It was found that the coatings have excellent shielding effect on all spectrum, especially with 6 wt% dosage of Csx WO3, which can prevent 98% of the light waves from penetrating the coating. The cooling test results showed that the coating reduced the internal temperature of asphalt slabs by 2.6 ℃ without a significant deterioration of their skidding performance.
