- Abstract: For the early CANDU6 design, there are no severe accident mitigation countermeasures, and severe accident environment condition has not been taken into account. Along with developing severe accident management guideline (SAMG) for CANDU6, researchers promoted the establishment of severe accident mitigation countermeasures for CANDU6. In this study a method of equipment survivability assessment for CANDU6 is proposed. Four time frames of equipment survivability in severe accidents for CANDU6 are obtained. The relationship between eight high level actions and time frames is clarified. Environment condition during severe accidents is also included for consequence evaluation. Finally, based on the above analysis, severe accident environment condition for each time frame is compared with equipment qualification condition, some key equipments include valves, local air coolers, hydrogen recombiners, penetrations, instrumentations can be successfully quantified. Highlights: Time frames of equipment survivability in severe accidents for CANDU6 are obtained. The relationship between high level actions and time frames is clarified. Accident environment condition is compared with equipment qualification condition.
