- Highlights: This paper reviews recent literature on prevention services for OSH in the changing world of work in Member States of the EU. It explores the current profile of prevention services in the EU and how they have supported OSH in the face of the changes that have taken place in the structure and organisation of work. It discusses concerns about their coverage, and support for prevention practice. It finds their marketisation in recent decades has contributed little to their development. It identifies the evolving role of OSH competencies in supporting better OSH practice and suggests need for further research on the emergence of generalist practitioners as an increasingly dominant professional grouping. The review identifies a number of serious concerns about the coverage of these services, and their contribution to supporting prevention practice. It finds their marketisation in recent decades has contributed little to their development in these respects. The paper discusses the challenges confronting their future of role in support for good practice in OSH and concludes with a number of questions for policy and future research. … (more)
