Abstract

Abstract : Climate design conditions used in building design are based on the historical record, e.g. the most recent 25 years. These design conditions are thus not necessarily reflective of the period of time over which the building will operate, e.g. the next 25 years or more. This paper summarizes the methodology and publication of a new historical trends section added to climatic design condition tables for the 2021 edition of the ASHRAE Handbook—Fundamentals . Additionally, the potential for atmospheric reanalysis data is investigated for augmenting the meteorological station data and for generating global building-focused climatic maps, covering locations for which no observational data are available.
