- Abstract: Ceramic waste is generated in huge quantity during production, transportation and fixing stages. This waste ceramic is discarded in open spaces which generates a lot of environmental issues. The main purpose of this research is utilization of waste ceramic tile as a substitution for natural river sand in self-compacting concrete. Natural river sand (NRS) was substituted by waste ceramic tile (WCT) in different percentages 0–100% by weight. The self-compacting concrete (SCC) mixes were prepared with a constant water-cement ratio 0.33. Slump flow, T-500, V-funnel, L-box, J-ring and U-box were examined for fresh state of the SCC. Mechanical strength, sorptivity and dry shrinkage were conducted to test the hardened state of SCC. The fresh state properties reduced as the quantity of waste ceramic tile is increased, however all properties satisfied the acceptable limits of EFNARC standards. The outcomes of mechanical strength showed a meaningful increment in SCC mixtures up to an incorporation of 60% of WCT. The sorptivity and dry shrinkage performance improved with the incorporation of WCT in SCC mixes. The sorptivity and dry shrinkage results confirm the best performance for the SCC made with 60% of WCT.
