- Abstract: CFRP composite is an attractive material due to its high stiffness, high toughness, and low density characteristics. ECDM is a hybrid advanced machining process that is used for the purpose of machining of different types of materials including non-conductive materials. In this paper, drilling of CFRP composite was performed through the ECDM process by varying one factor at a time. The input factors considered were voltage and feed rate while output factors were hole overcut and taper. It was found that both overcut and taper increased with the voltage, whereas overcut and taper decreased with the feed rate. The minimum overcut of 322.4 µm and minimum taper of 38.3 µm were obtained when machining was performed at 60 V (voltage) and 0.25 mm/min (feed rate). The heat-affected zone and debris deposition were seen in the SEM images of the machined surface.
