- Abstract: This paper describes an evaluation method for the liquid separation structure that is utilized in thermal probe for measuring gas temperature in gas-droplet two-phase flows. The study is performed on two structures. Numerical simulations are conducted to find the proper position of the thermocouple detector in the structures. Based on that, a visualization device equipped with high-sensitivity thermocouples is designed according to the separation structures, and a fundamental experiment is then performed to study the influence of droplets on the temperature measurement of the thermocouple. The inflow velocity ranges from 60 to 115 m/s, and the inflow temperature range are 40 to 56 °C. The droplet deposition on the thermocouple detector in the structures is observed with a well-designed optical system, and the temperature response of the thermocouple is monitored simultaneously, and accordingly the relation between droplet deposition effect and the response of the thermocouple is built. Finally, the experiments of temperature measurements with two probe devices that designed based on both separation structures in an evaporating two-phase flow are carried out. Based on the temperature measurement results, the structure with a rectangular blunt body shows good performance, but the one with an elliptical blunt body does not.
