- Highlights: Interfacial drag of two-phase flow in porous media is experimentally studied. The effects of porous structure and flow velocity on interfacial drag are studied. The size of pores has an essential influence on the interfacial drag. The decrease of gas–liquid contact area leads to the decrease of interfacial drag. Abstract: To reduce the uncertainty in coolability estimate of debris bed in the situation of severe accident in light water reactors, especially study the law of interfacial drag ( F i ), two-phase flow tests are carried out to clarify how different parameters affect F i and the ratio of F i to the pressure drop. The results show that F i leads to a decline of the pressure drops in packed beds with 3 mm and 6 mm spheres. Under some setting conditions in this study, F i illustrates a decline with the increasing gas flow velocity. It is inferred that the decrease of F i is due to the decrease of gas–liquid contact area, and the contact area of annular flow is deduced.
