- Abstract: This paper presents a new methodology for the prediction of pipelines failure pressure that uses axisymmetric modeling of pipelines which uses the River Bottom Profile (RBP) of the corrosion defect. This new tool is practical because, typically, the length of the corrosion defect is much larger than its width ( L > W ) and therefore the width has little influence on the failure pressure. In addition, for pipe models without corrosion defects, the circumferential stress is approximately twice the longitudinal stress. This new methodology allows oil and gas industry piping engineers to assess pipeline integrity quickly and accurately. The quality of the proposed methodology is attested by an average deviation of about 3% from experimental results, for the specimens shown in this article.
