- Abstract: Zinc and aluminum ions are widespread in nature and human bodies. Disorder of these metal ions is not only closely related to various physiological and pathological processes but also an important biomarker in many diseases. Herein, we constructed a novel multifunctional fluorescent probe (HL) for specifically detecting Zn 2+ /Al 3+ . The addition of Zn 2+ /Al 3+ trigger the fluorescence enhancement of the probe (λex = 400 nm/385 nm, λem = 510 nm/450 nm) in aqueous media/in ethanol, probably due to aggregation-induced emission (AIE) effect and the inhibited PET process/the formation of 1:1 stoichiometric L-Al complex inhibiting PET process. More importantly, besides fluorescence imaging of Zn 2+ /Al 3+ in PC3 cells, the probe has been applied successfully to determination of serum Zn 2+ level in liquid biopsy of serum of prostate cancer confirms its diagnostic value in accurate detection for prostate cancer. Highlights: A dual recognition fluorescent probe (HL) is developed for Zn 2+ /Al 3+ detection. HL response to Zn 2+ /Al 3+ and generate green/blue fluorescence via AIE/PeT mechanisms. No other metal ions show capacity to turn on the HI fluorescence. Zn-HL fluorescence shows diagnostic value for accurate detection of prostate cancer.
