- Highlights: Different strategies to obtain multiple/broad emission to achieve white light emission from a single organic molecule are explained. The single organic molecular systems have been classified based on their excited state decay mechanisms. The triplet emitters/singlet-triplet emitters perform better than that of only singlet emitters in terms of efficiency. A thoughtful design of a molecular system with optimized local environment parameters including polarity, H-bonding, viscosity, molecular conformation and molecular packing can give rise to broad emission enabling white light emissive materials. Abstract: Organic materials emitting white light have drawn great importance because of their real-world application in displays technologies and light emission. Recent studies show that single-molecule organic emitters perform better to replace multicomponent (red, green, and blue) emitters in device fabrication. Nonetheless, the practical implication of single organic-white light emission (O-WLE) while maintaining high performance balance is limited yet. The collective idea for developing WLE from a single organic molecule has not been comprehensively addressed yet, which indeed is crucial for developing new novel organic molecules for WLE. In this article, different strategies to obtain multiple/broad emission, which indeed is required to achieve WLE from a single organic molecule, are elaborated and precisely explained. In this article, different strategies to obtain multiple/broad emission, which indeed is required to achieve WLE from a single organic molecule, are elaborated and precisely explained. These systems have been categorized based on their excited state decay mechanism, i.e., singlet emitters, both singlet and triplet emitters, and triplet emitters, which provide a clear understanding to design single O-WLE systems.
