Abstract

ABSTRACT: In this study, we focus on the trans-situational consistency of pro-environmental energy-saving behaviours. More specifically, we study the consistency between home and the workplace. Given the literature, we envisaged that behavioural consistency would be associated with intentional and automatic determinants and with environmental self-identity and the perceived similarity of situations. 195 participants replied to an online questionnaire measuring the determinants of behaviours, the similarity of situations, the environmental self-identity and the frequency of pro-environmental behaviours. The results highlighted the fact that behavioural consistency is predicted both by intentionality and habit. Environmental self-identity moderates the relationship between consistency on the one hand and intentionality and habit on the other. Intentionality determines consistency when the perception of the similarity of situations is low. These results are discussed from the point of view of the practices related to the transmission of pro-environmental behaviours.
