- Abstract: Here, the phase structure, microstructure, and electrical and luminescent properties of 0.93(Na0.5 Bi0.5 )1- x TiO3 -0.07BaTiO3 - x Eu 3+ (BNBT- x Eu, 0.000≤ x ≤ 0.020) ceramics were investigated. Coexisting rhombohedral ( R ) and tetragonal ( T ) phases were obtained in all ceramics. As the Eu 3+ content increased, the phase structure changed from a mixture of R - T phases to a main T phase with a minor R phase, along with a decreased grain size. The T m of the BNBT- x Eu ceramics increased from 283 °C to 302 °C upon increasing the Eu 3+ content, and the permittivity curve became broader, especially at a high doping content. The ferroelectric and piezoelectric properties were enhanced due to appropriate ratio of R and T phases, increased density, reduced T d, reduced E C, and reduced current density caused by Eu 3+ doping. The maximum remnant polarization of P r = 35.5 μC/cm 2 and piezoelectric constant of d 33 = 214 pC/N were achieved for the x = 0.010 ceramic. Eu 3+ doped BNBT ceramics exhibited red fluorescence at 614 nm derived from the 5 D0 → 7 F2 transition of Eu 3+ under 466 nm excitation. These results demonstrate the potential applications of the Eu 3+ doped BNBT ceramics for novel integrated electronic devices.
