- Abstract: The paper is devoted to the joint experimental and numerical analysis of the ignition and non-stationary combustion of the foamed emulsion on the base of n-heptane. The role of the initial stage of ignition in the formation of the jet, which defines the foam decay and subsequent non-stationary manner of the combustion development, is demonstrated. It is shown that the oscillatory character of the combustion velocity is caused by the formation of secondary ignitions of the emulsion droplets on the lateral surface of the jet. Mechanisms of the flame propagation and quenching in the foam ignited near the opened end of the tube are formulated. Highlights: Foamed emulsion ignition and combustion are studied experimentally and numerically. Proposed numerical model reproduces accurately the early stages of foam combustion. Ignition system and reactor geometry affect strongly on the onset of foam combustion. High-speed flame arises after ignition due to the foam decomposition by the hot jet.
