The image illustrates an optical temperature sensor based on fiber Bragg gratings which enables accurate temperature measurements at various positions inside an illuminated plasmonic catalyst powder bed. The sensor is much smaller than conventional thermocouples, has a much lower mass and does not directly absorb light.
