Abstract

Abstract : In an editorial in the March issue of the Journal of the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, researchers focus on what they admit is a "delicate, complex, and often divisive issue" — prescribing antipsychotics for children and adolescents who have conditions which carry an "established higher risk of imminent development of an overt psychotic state." This risk, known as clinical high risk for psychosis (CHR‐P), is not the same as, for example, a genetic risk. It is specifically related to the DSM‐5 attenuated psychosis syndrome (APS) which falls below the severity threshold for a diagnosis of schizophrenia and other psychotic disorders.
