- Abstract: The economic and industrial development of any nation depends on energy. To fulfil the future energy requirements, it is very necessary to switch over the renewable energy sources for energy generation. Among all the renewable energy sources solar energy can effectively convertible to the other forms of energy but the major drawback is that it is only available during the day time and if it needs to be utilised during the night-time, the only option is to store it during the day time when it is abundantly available. Several techniques have been introduced for the storage of solar thermal energy and there are three basic ways to store the solar thermal energy i.e. in the form of sensible heat, latent heat and thermochemical heat. The main objective of the present work is to compare different energy storage techniques which resulted that a metal hydride based thermochemical energy storage (MH-TCES) system is more suitable. In addition, it enlightens on the selection of working materials for MH-TCES.
