- Abstract : Weather is relative; a minimum temperature of +1°C at the Abbey Gardens in Tresco on Isles of Scilly is extreme, yet commonplace at most other sites during a UK winter. Categorising and displaying temperatures in terms of the local, site‐specific and long‐term observed climatology is ideally suited to the communication and analysis of both deterministic and probabilistic forecasts. Furthermore, these categories also make all‐site, regional and site‐specific forecast performance relatively straightforward to present.
