- ABSTRACT: The use of solitary confinement is one of the most pressing issues facing American Corrections. Due to the legal, financial, and moral costs and issues associated with solitary confinement, a great deal of research has focused on developing best practices for its use. However, to date there has been no examination of whether these best practices are being implemented in the Midwestern United States. This article seeks to fill that void with an exploratory look at the issue.
