- Abstract: A novel phototherapeutic agent IABDP which possessed the near infrared absorbing was synthesized and characterized. The IABDP can self-assemble into ∼200 nm nanoparticles (IABDP NPs ) with high stability by reprecipitation method. Under the low power light irradiation, it exhibits the excellent photodynamic therapy (PDT), while increasing the irradiated power, it exhibits significant photothermal therapy (PTT). Moreover, the particles can generate severe damage to HeLa and HepG2 cells and obvious inhibition effect to the tumor via synergistic PDT/PTT treatments. Graphical abstract: Image 1 Highlights: A novel NIR absorption photosensitizer IABDP has been obtained by facile synthetic procedure. The molecule based on PEGylation aza-BDP could self-assemble into nanoparticles with high stability. The introduction of iodine atoms significantly generated the photodynamic and photothermal effect. The aza-BDP nanoparticles can effectively inhibit cancer cells as well as tumors.
