- Key Points: This observational study from the National Inpatient Sample found a temporal increase in percutaneous coronary interventions (PCI) among patients with liver cirrhosis. In a propensity matched analysis, patients with underlying hepatic insufficiency demonstrated a predisposition to peri‐operative acute kidney injury and required greater resource allocation associated with higher in‐hospital mortality and costs. Despite a higher‐risk profile associated with chronic hepatic insufficiency, contemporary technologies and techniques for PCI, including drug‐eluting stents, should not be withheld from this population.
