Abstract

Abstract : Abstract: Monoarthritis associated with herpes virus infection is rare and previously only described in herpes simplex type 1, varicella zoster, and Epstein-Barr virus infections. Here, we report a case of monoarthritis of the knee associated with primary herpes simplex virus type 2 (HSV-2) infection in an immunocompetent 50-year-old woman. Herpes simplex virus type 2 DNA was detected in plasma and in the joint fluid. The patient had only mild symptoms of herpes simplex virus type 2, suggesting that virus-associated monoarthritis may be underrecognized and underreported.
